About our Club
We are a friendly, well organised, responsible club founded in 1925 by a keen band of local anglers. Based at the Lake in Railway Terrace, the Club has good local waters, with excellent fishing and facilities.
We have 130 pegs on the canal around Lady Capels, which offers a variety of fishing with Bream, Chub, Carp plus the usual smaller species. Day tickets are available on the bank from the bailiff. What started out as one large lake (an old gravel pit) has over the years, evolved into one large lake, a small lake and breeding/stock pond. The small lake was completely remodelled in mid 1993 and is now known as Gaywoods Pool. It holds a very good stock of Mirror & Common Carp, Crucians, 50/50’s, Bream, Barbel, Chub, Tench and various other small species all eagerly awaiting your bait. A development programme is ongoing to improve access and fishing stations for anglers of mixed abilities. The Main Lake is predominantly stocked with Carp and Bream with the specimen angler in mind. There are also a few Tench and larger Perch for variety.
Since 2008 personal nets and unhooking mats have not been allowed, instead they are available on site to safeguard our fishery from incoming diseases.
All nets must be dipped after use and hung up in our drying cage. When dried these are moved by one of our match team and re-hung in the net container. Wet nets MUST NOT be put back in the container. Keepnets are only available and are provided for our organised matches, please refer to the match section of our website.
Links with other clubs, provide access to a large selection of “away” waters through our Club match programme. Please see our match section for further details.
